NEW YORK -- The Columbia volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-20) loss to Penn on Friday night at Levien Gymnasium
Despite the loss in straight sets, the Lions fought hard in each game but came up just short.
In the first set, a kill from Juliana Williamson cut the Penn lead to 22-21, but the Quakers would score three of the next four points to close out a win.
In the second set, it was close late again as a kill from Logan Harlock cut the Penn lead to 21-19, but the Quakers once again scored four of the final five points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set three played out very similarly as a kill from Soah Franklin and a Penn attack error brought the score to 21-20 in favor of the Quakers, but Penn would close the set on a 4-0 run to secure the sweep.
Franklin led the Lions with eight kills and four total blocks, accumulating 12 points. Harper Justema chipped in six kills and four total blocks of her own. Ruby van der Heide had a team-high 27 assists and five digs. Lauren Cho led Columbia with 10 digs and a service ace.
The contest against Penn was Columbia's Pride Game, and the Lions wore special t-shirts that feature a rainbow Columbia logo in warmups for the occasion. In addition, pride bracelets were handed out to spectators and staff at Levien Gymnasium throughout the night. The Lions close out their home schedule later today when they will host the Princeton Tigers at 5:00 p.m. at Levien. Senior Day festivities will begin at approximately 4:30 p.m.
