Squash Hosts Drexel Sunday

Columbia men’s and women’s squash plays host to Drexel Sunday starting at Noon
NEW YORK – The Columbia men's and women's squash teams continue the early season homestand Sunday when Drexel comes to New York. Both matches start at Noon Sunday at SL Green Streetsquash in Harlem.
The women's team comes into the weekend ranked No. 10 in the latest College Squash Association (CSA) rankings released on November 16. The men's team holds a No. 7 ranking.
The women are 1-2 on the season after posting a dominating 9-0 victory over No. 22 St. Lawrence in their last match. Reigning College Squash Association (CSA) Women's National Champion Simmi Chan continued her dominant start to the season with an 11-5, 11-5, 11-4 win over Abhisheka David. Chan is now 3-0 individually on the season.
First-year Kaavya Bansal posted the first win of the afternoon with an 11-2, 11-3, 11-1 win over Ksenia Merkulova in the No. 6 spot of Columbia's lineup. Fellow first-years Eugenia Li and Advita Sharma also picked up wins Sunday.
Erica McGillicuddy, Aleeza Khan, Amal Izhar, Uditi Mishra and Shaivi Rau also earned wins to help the Lions complete the shutout.
On the women's side, Drexel enters the match ranked No. 6 at 2-2 overall this season. The Dragons are coming off back-to-back losses to formerly No. 8 Penn and current No. 8 Virginia.
The men's team is off to a 2-0 start this season after a 9-0 sweep of No. 21 St. Lawrence. The Lions got the season started with a 7-2 win over former No. 7 Virginia. This will be the men's third consecutive home match when the Lions meet No. 6 Drexel Sunday.
Senior Sameer Saxena posted an impressive 11-6, 11-2, 11-3 win in the No. 9 spot of the Lion lineup to get the day started. First-year Thomas Soltanian, junior Ryan Chen, first-year Paarth Ambani, senior Rutvik Rau, and junior Adam Goad all finished their matches within minutes of each other to keep the Columbia dominance going.
Jacob Bulbulia, Harold Castiaux and Laszlo Godde each recorded wins to wrap up the afternoon and secure the 9-0 shutout win.
