O'Toole, Patterson Bring Home Championships on Final Day of Ivy League Indoor Heps

The women finished fourth while the men placed sixth

HANOVER, N.H.-- On the final day 2023 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Dartmouth University, the Lions walked away with two more gold medals, five other top-three finishes, and a multitude of other podium finishes. In what was ultimately a very successful trip for Columbia, the women finished in fourth place with a score of 53.33, while the men finished in sixth with a score of 36.

The highlight of the afternoon came in the men's 800m run, when Justin O'Toole took home the gold medal with a record-setting time of 1:49.86. This time set a new Leverone Field House record, as O'Toole became the first runner to break the 1:50 mark in the facility's history.

The highlight on the women's side came from Victoria Patterson once again, as she won her second gold medal of the weekend. This time, Patterson emerged victorious in the 5000m run with an impressive time of 16:08.42. Elia Ton-That took third place and the bronze medal with a time of 16:08.42.

Meanwhile, Columbia's men's 4x400m relay squad consisting of Matthew Mazero, Max Comfere, Haydn Brotschi, and Devon Davey took home a bronze medal with a time of 3:13.32. This time set a new program record, as well.

Among the Lions' other top-three finishers this weekend included the distance medley relay team consisting of Seneca Willen, Tess Darnell, Lucy Henkel, and Nicole Vanasse. They won a bronze medal with a time of 11:32.52.

In addition, Anna Jordahl-Henry brought home a silver medal in the women's high jump (1.73). Her twin sister, Julia Jordahl-Henry, finished right behind her in fourth place (1.71). Nate Gramentine represented the Lions in the men's high jump, and also came away with a bronze medal (2.07).

"I'm really happy with the performances from both the men and the women this weekend," Head Coach Dan Ireland said. "The women finished fourth which we were very happy with. We are getting closer each and every day to our goal of getting back into the top-two of the conference, and this weekend was a big step forward towards that goal. Meanwhile, the men had a great improvement from last year. Obviously we would have liked to finish in the top half of the field, but I am still proud of how they performed."

"Overall I thought the team competed very well, and we had many great individual performances. We had a lot of competitors who were at their first ever Ivy League Championships, but we showed a lot of growth and I am super excited to see what both of these groups can do moving forward for years to come. Really excited to get into the outdoor season!"

Next weekend, the Lions will return to action at the IC4A/ECAC Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The events will begin on Saturday morning.
