Lacrosse Falls to Brown in Ivy League Clash

Falcone tallies hat trick in loss

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Columbia lacrosse team (3-6) resumed Ivy League play on Friday evening, squaring off against the Brown Bears in Rhode Island. Brown used a huge first half to gain control of the game, and held on for a 19-8 victory.

Dani Falcone led Columbia's attack with a hat trick. Kate Cunning added two goals, while Dylan Silar collected two assists. Sophie Zachara, Cecelia Messner, and Cordelia Flemming had one goal each.

The Bears struck first, scoring the first two goals of the game, but Cunning had a quick answer finding the back of the net on a free position shot to cut the deficit back to one goal at the 8:41 mark of the first quarter.

From that point, Brown went on a huge run to close out the half. The Bears would score 11 of the next 12 goals, and took a 13-2 lead into halftime.

Columbia's offense came alive in the second half, and kept pace with Brown the rest of the way, but the first half deficit was too much to overcome. The Bears held on to win 19-8.

Columbia goalkeepers Ella Sangree and Emma Neclerio combined for eight saves. Flemming had a team-high three draw controls. Ellie Eisner led the Lions with two ground balls and a caused turnover.

Next up, Columbia will return home for a non-conference contest against UNH on Thursday, March 30. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at Robert K. Kraft Field.
