COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Columbia softball team was defeated by Illinois, 4-0 on Sunday morning in the final game of the Gamecock Invitational hosted by South Carolina.
Senior
Bubba Gleaves hit two doubles in the contest as she led the effort at the plate. Senior
Megan Ryono and Sophomore
Maddie Souza each had one hit as the Lions totaled four hits as a team in the loss.
The first two innings were scoreless before
Megan Ryono's sister, Illinois right fielder Kelly Ryono hit a two-run homer in the top of third to give Illinois a 2-0 lead. Illinois added two more runs in the top of the seventh to polish off the 4-0 win.
Sophomore right-hander
Jordan Hill (1-4) was charged with the loss as she tossed 6.0 innings. She allowed four earned runs on eight hits while striking out four batters. Junior right-hander
Raquel Reyes came in for relief and pitched one inning, allowing one hit.
UP NEXT
The Lions head to California next weekend for the Long Beach/Cal State Fullerton Tournament. Columbia will play Boston, Baylor, Colgate, San Diego State and San Diego in the event. Columbia will wrap up the trip with a doubleheader at California Riverside.
