NEW YORK – The Lions scored three runs on nine hits, while
Raquel Reyes had another solid outing in the circle to take a 3-1 win over Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon at Columbia Softball Stadium.
Columbia finished off its first Ivy League sweep since 2019 as the Lions improve to 10-14 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
"I think it was good that we rebounded back after last weekend," Columbia Softball Head Coach
Jennifer Teague said. "I am super proud of our pitchers and how they settled in and came into their own this weekend. It is a process we talk about and they stayed in their process and kept working. I could not be more proud of them and the whole team. Any time you can get a conference sweep, it is pretty awesome."
The Lions took the lead in the bottom of the first inning as
Megan Ryono reached on a leadoff single. She then stole second and moved to third on a
Cami Neal single. Ryono scored on a sac fly from
Caroline Palys.
Dartmouth brought a run home in the top of the third to tie the game, but the Lions responded quickly with a run in the bottom of the frame to reclaim the lead.
Jaden Hill reached on a leadoff base hit to left field. She then advanced on a
Bubba Gleaves sac bunt. Neal came to the plate next and used an RBI single up the middle to drive in Hill to give the Lions a 2-1 lead.
Columbia added one more run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run to left field off the bat of Gleaves. The Lions would hold on to the 3-1 lead to secure the series sweep of Dartmouth.
Reyes (4-4) got the start in the circle and earned the win through 5.2 innings of work. She allowed just one run on three hits.
Jordan Hill picked up the save as she tossed 1.1 innings, striking out two and allowing no runs or hits.
"I was really pumped up after we pulled out that win in 10 innings, so that was exciting for us," Reyes said. "I knew we had to come out here again and have that same fire within us. That is what I brought to the third game and it was exciting to go sweep."
