
Women’s Tennis Sweeps Penn

PHILADELPHIA – Columbia rebounded from the loss against Princeton on Friday to go on the road and take a 4-0 sweep at Penn. The Lions improve to 8-7 overall with a 2-1 mark in the Ivy League.
The Lions took control early as they clinched the doubles point with two quick wins. The duo of Winta Tewolde and Michelle Xu rolled to a 6-0 win over Eileen Wang and Claire Zhang in the No. 3 singles. Shivani Amineni and Rachele Rimondini clinched the doubles point for Columbia with a 6-2 win against Gavriella Smith and Saige Roshkoff in the No. 2 doubles.
Anna Zhang and Sophia Wang played together at the No. 1 spot. Their match went unfinished as they were tied 4-4 with Iris Gallo and Maya Urata when Columbia clinched the doubles point.
Xu extended the Columbia lead to start singles play as she cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win against Claire Zhang in the No. 6 singles. Anna Zhang posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Eileen Wang in the No. 1 spot. Tewolde then sealed the Columbia win with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Gallo in the No. 3 singles.
