NEW YORK – Columbia is back in the city to wrap up its 2023 home slate this weekend with matches against Dartmouth and No. 72 Harvard. The Lions will play Dartmouth at 1 p.m. Saturday and Harvard at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Philip and Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center.
The Lions enter the weekend with an 8-7 overall record and a 2-1 mark in Ivy League action.
Columbia is back at home after taking a 4-0 sweep at Penn last Sunday. The Lions won the doubles point and
Anna Zhang,
Winta Tewolde, and
Michelle Xu earned victories in singles play to finish off the sweep. Columbia lost a 4-0 contest to No. 48 Princeton last Friday.
Zhang has played the top spot in singles in almost every dual match this spring as she has compiled a 5-7 record. In doubles, Zhang and
Sophia Wang have teamed up at the No. 1 spot and are 9-3 overall this spring.
Tewolde has found some success in the middle part of the singles lineup with a 7-2 overall record this spring. She picked up a win in the No. 3 singles against Penn.
Clarine Lerby has emerged as the spring season as progressed as she is 6-1 overall in singles action.
Xu has also been an important part of the singles lineup as she is 5-2 this spring playing in the four, five, and six spots. Xu posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 6 spot in the sweep of Penn.
First serve for Saturday's match against Dartmouth is set for 1 p.m. Sunday's match against Harvard is also slated for 1 p.m. The team's three seniors:
Sophie Raiszadeh,
Shivani Amineni, and
Michelle Xu will be honored at the match Sunday for senior day.
