NEW YORK — All three Columbia rowing teams were in action on Saturday, as the No. 7 lightweight team won the Dodge Cup for the first time since 2019.
The lightweight team was victorious for the second-straight weekend as the Lions took the Dodge Cup over Penn and Yale. The first varsity eight race included a photo finish that Columbia won by a bow ball. A bow ball is primarily intended for safety on the boat, but is also used in deciding which boat crossed the finish line first in close races.
"Another day of highly competitive rowing in the lightweight league," lightweight head coach
Nich Lee Parker said. "A huge thank you to Art Delmhorst, head coach of the 1964 Columbia Lions, and Eric Danneman, from that season's undefeated freshmen crew, who were both in attendance to cheer on the team and were part of the inaugural race in 1964."
The Lions also won the inaugural Charles P. Colgan Cup for team points. Colgan was a Penn rower who later coached at Columbia.
"The Team applied lessons learned from the last two weeks of close racing and took a good step," Parker said. "I'm looking forward to getting together with these great teams again next year in New York City."
