
Women’s Tennis Falls To No. 48 Princeton

NEW YORK – No. 48 Princeton took a 4-0 win over Columbia on Friday afternoon at the Milstein Family Tennis Center. The Lions drop to 7-7 overall for the season with a 1-1 Ivy League mark.
Princeton got the afternoon started by taking the doubles point to grab a quick 1-0 lead. The Princeton duo of Zoe Howard and Maia Sung posted a 6-1 win over Rachele Rimondini and Shivani Amenini in the No. 2 doubles. The Lions answered back with a win in the No. 3 doubles as Winta Tewolde and Michelle Xu came back from an early 0-2 deficit to take a 6-3 win against Neha Velaga and Eva Elbaz.
The duo of Anna Zhang and Sophia Wang found themselves down early, 1-4 in the No. 1 doubles. The duo clawed back to make it a 4-4 match before Princeton's No. 31 ranked doubles team Daria Frayman and Grace Joyce fought through to earn a 6-4 win to clinch the doubles point for the Tigers.
The Tigers continued their success in singles play as they captured three-straight singles matches to complete the 4-0 sweep. Sung posted the first singles win for Princeton with a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Wang in the No. 4 singles.
No. 4 Frayman followed that up with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Zhang in the No. 1 singles. Velaga finished off the 4-0 sweep for the Tigers with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Julia Haynes in the No. 2 spot.
Tewolde, Clarine Lerby, and Fatima Keita were all leading at the time Princeton clinched the match, so their matches went unfinished.
