NEW YORK – The Columbia men's tennis team's 2023 season came to an end Saturday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Tournament as the Lions fell to Stanford in a 4-2 contest.

The Lions finish the season with a 20-4 overall record. Columbia's 20 wins is the most in a season during Bidyut K. Goswami Head Coach of Men's Tennis Howard Endelman's time as head coach.

Stanford got the afternoon started by clinching the doubles point to take the early lead. The Stanford duo of Nishesh Basavareddy and Max Basing posted a 6-2 win over Roko Horvat and Alex Kotzen in the No. 3 doubles. Arthur Fery and Samir Banerjee took a 6-4 win in the No. 1 spot to secure the doubles point for Stanford.

Nicolas Kotzen and Max Westphal paired up in the No. 2 doubles. Their match was abandoned as they trailed Aryan Chaudhary and Filip Kolasinski, 4-5 when the doubles point was clinched.

No. 15 Basavareddy got singles play started with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Alex Kotzen in the No. 3 singles to give Stanford the 2-0 advantage. No. 3 Fery followed that up with a 6-3, 6-3 win over No. 36 Zheng in the No. 1 spot.

Looking to keep the Lions alive, Hugo Hashimoto finished off a thrilling two-set, 6-2, 7-5 win against No. 33 Basing in the No. 4 singles. Nick Kotzen then posted a 7-5, 6-3 win in the No. 5 spot against Neel Rajesh to trim the Stanford lead down to 3-2.

No. 56 Banerjee clinched the 4-2 Stanford win with a three-set, 6-7(2-7), 7-5, 6-3 win against No. 21 Westphal in the No. 2 singles. The No. 6 singles match was left unfinished and in question due to a lineup discrepancy on Stanford's part.
