DeSousa, Gottlieb, Han, Vassantachart, White earn distinction
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Five members of the Columbia University archery team were named to USA Archery's 2023 All-American Academic Team, as announced by the National Governing Body on Friday.
The five Lions earning distinction are Giselle DeSousa (compound), Judith Gottlieb (recurve), Lillian Han (recurve), Dorothy Vassantachart (recurve) and Erin White (recurve). This prestigious award recognizes not only excellence on the archery field, but the hard work and dedication required to balance a heavy practice and competition schedule with excellence in the classroom.
The All-American Academic Team is composed of archers in each division and class and based on the following criteria:
- Archer must be eligible to shoot in the 2023 Spring Semester (Full Time Collegiate Student).
- Required cumulative GPA of 3.5 through fall term 2022.
USA Archery takes the top 25 percent (ranked by score) of each division and class from U.S. National Indoor Championships. Archers that are in the top 25 percent and who meet the minimum GPA earn a spot on the team.
The Lions are preparing for Collegiate Target Nationals, which take place at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia from May 18-21.
