Heavyweight Rowing Completes Day One of IRA Championships

Lions' 1V8 and 2V8 in action at Mercer Lake

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. — Columbia heavyweight rowing raced two boats on day one of the 120th annual Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships at Mercer Lake.

The 1V8 and 2V8 boats each raced twice on Friday in a heat and a repechage. The Lions' 1V8 boat finished sixth in the first heat with a time of 6:11.34, just two seconds behind MIT. The 1V8 boat then finished fourth in the repechage with a time of 6:08.43.

The 2V8 finished fifth in the first heat with a time of 6:22.83. In the repechage, the 2V8 finished fourth with a time of 6:23.73.

Columbia is back in action on Saturday as the IRA Championships continue. The 1V8 boat will race in Semi-Final 3 at 9:12 a.m. The 2V8 boat will race in the Semi-Final 4 at 9:36 a.m.
