Men's Swimming and Diving Defeated by Navy at Uris
1/26/2024 3:30:00 PM | Men's Swimming and Diving
NEW YORK — The Columbia men's swimming and diving team welcomed Navy to Uris Natatorium on Friday afternoon for a non-conference meet, but it was the Midshipmen who emerged victorious by a score of 176-118.
"I was very pleased with the team's performance today," Head Coach Jim Bolster said. "It would have been very easy to just roll over with us being short-handed against a very good Navy team. However, the guys responded really well, and raced extremely well. It is the sign of a good team to be able to fight through adversity like that. I think it bodes well for the rest of our season."
Zach Vasser picked up the Lions' first victory of the afternoon, winning the 1000-free for the second consecutive meet. The first-year touched the wall with a time of 9:25.59 to take first place.
In the very next event, Adam Wu earned his first win of the day with a first-place finish in the 200-free, finishing with a time of 1:39.59. Wu put the finishing touches on a great meet when he went on to win the 500-free later in the afternoon with a time of 4:31.66.
Andy Huang picked up a big win in the 100-back, clocking in at 49.58.
Stanford Li continued his winning ways, this time with a victory in the 200-fly. He touched the wall with a time of 1:47.63 to take first.
Caleb Apodaca closed things out for the Lions with a win in the final individual event of the afternoon, winning the 200-IM with a time of 1:51.65
Columbia did not have any divers compete in this meet.
