Men's, Women's Squash Suffer Setbacks to No. 1 Trinity

Men take the Bantams down to the wire; Simmi Chan remained undefeated for the women
NEW YORK — The Columbia men's and women's squash teams fell to reining national champions and current No. 1 Trinity Sunday afternoon at SL Street Squash. The men responded from an early deficit and nearly pulled off the upset, but came up just short, falling 5-4. The women dropped an 8-1 decision to the Bantams with Simmi Chan improving to 9-0 on the season.
MEN'S RECAP
The Bantams (12-0) took the first three matchups before Columbia battled back. The Lions (4-5) then won three of the next four before Trinity clinched the match at No. 5.
Paarth Ambani came away with a dominant win in No. 7, topping Mateo Restrepo 11-7, 11-7, 11-4 to pull the Lions within 3-1. Shaurya Bawa rallied from down 2-1 to win a five-game decision over Joachim Chuah in the No. 3 slot to keep Columbia alive with three matches to play.
In the No. 2 position, Harold Castiaux came through with a four-game victory to cut the deficit to 4-3, however, moments later Benedek Takacs edged Jacob Bulbulia in No. 5 in a hard-fought match that went four games.
Adam Goad wrapped things up on a positive note, claiming a five-game triumph over Julius Benthin in No. 9 action.
WOMEN'S RECAP
Chan remains undefeated after dispatching Malak Ashraf Kamal, 11-4, 11-5, 12-10, to open the scoring. However, Trinity swept through the rest of the lineup to go on for the victory as it improved to 8-0 on the season.
Columbia dropped to 2-7 after the defeat.
