League’s leading scorer posted 28 and 10 at Penn
PRINCETON, N.J. – Columbia women's basketball's Abbey Hsu has been named Ivy League Player of the Week for a fifth time this season, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Hsu put on one of her best performances to lead Columbia to a dominant, 85-55, victory on Saturday at Penn. The senior from Parkland, Florida posted game-highs of 28 points and 10 rebounds, going 10-for-17 (.588) from the field and knocking down 6-of-10 from beyond the arc. The double-double was the fifth of her career, three of which have come this season.
Hsu's 3-point display matched her best of the campaign – she also went 6-for-10 in a win against Northeastern on November 25 – and moved her past Cornell's Matt Morgan (2015-19) for second in Ivy League history, men's or women's, in made threes (337). She's 40 behind the record of 377, currently held by Cornell's Ryan Wittman (2006-10).
The award is the 12th of Hsu's career, the same amount that Diana Caramanico (Penn, 1997-01) collected on her way to becoming the Ivy League's all-time leading scorer (2,415). Only Harvard's Allison Feaster (21), and Princeton's Bella Alarie (20) and Niveen Rasheed (14) have earned the award more times.
Entering the week, Hsu ranks No. 11 in the NCAA in scoring at 21.8 points per game. She also ranks 15th in made threes per game (2.89) top 25 in total points (392) and top 30 in total field goals (145). She leads the Ivy League in all of those categories and is also the league's best 3-point shooter among qualified individuals at 37.1 percent.
Columbia (13-5, 4-1 Ivy) will prepare to take on Harvard (11-7, 4-1 Ivy) and Dartmouth (6-11, 0-5 Ivy) this weekend at Levien Gymnasium. The Ivy back-to-back begins with a game against the Crimson on Friday at 6 p.m. ET.
