Volleyball Swept by Brown

Watts, Jones combine for 13 kills

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Columbia volleyball team traveled to Rhode Island on Friday evening to take on the Brown Bears.

Both teams entered the contest 0-3 in Ivy League play, but in the end, it was the Bears who picked up the sweep (25-13, 25-15, 25-12).

Brown was selected to finish third in the Ivy League Preseason Poll before the season after appearing in the conference championship game for two straight years, and the Bears proved why they earned that distinction tonight despite the rough start to conference play. Brown's offense was unstoppable, hitting an impressive .392 in the game and the Lions could never really find their footing before the Bears earned the victory in three sets.

Hailee Watts led the Lions with seven kills, while Avery Jones added six kills. Ruby van der Heide collected 15 assists. Delaney Seaman notched a team-high six digs.

Columbia will take on Yale tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. in New Haven.
