Field Hockey Edged by Brown in a Shootout on Friday

Lions played their fourth OT game of the year; First SO since 2019

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Columbia field hockey was narrowly defeated in a shootout at Brown, 2-1, on Friday.

After two overtime periods saw just one shot on goal between the two teams, the match went to a best-of-five shootout. The Bears (6-6, 3-2) netted two goals in the shootout and Columbia (3-8, 1-4) was unable to score.

In regulation, Brown got on the board first less than five minutes into the second half to take a 1-0 lead.

Sam Petrucco's second goal of the season knotted the game at 1-1 with 4:59 left in regulation.

Columbia was outshot 29-11 (14-5) on goal. Goalkeeper Katie Wimmer made 13 saves for the Lions in the cage.

The Lions return home to play Delaware on Sunday at 1 p.m.
