Women’s Soccer Forces Draw at Brown, Clinches Spot in Ivy League Tournament

Lions score in second half to force draw at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Columbia women's soccer team used a goal in the second half of Saturday's contest at Stevenson-Pincince Field to force a draw with Brown. Based on other results around the Ivy League today, Columbia clinched its spot in the Ivy League Tournament for the second straight season.

Columbia (6-3-4, 4-0-1 Ivy) remains in first place in the Ivy League standings with a result today against Brown (5-3-5, 2-1-2 Ivy) despite Princeton's win over Harvard. The Lions now have 13 points from league action and hold a narrow advantage over Princeton with 12 points.

Brown took the lead in the 14th minute as Ella Weil found the net on a chaotic play near the net. Weil notched her fifth goal of the season as she continues to lead the Bears in goals scored.

Columbia outshot Brown, 5-4 in the first half with some good looks at the net. The Lions put two shots on goal, but could not convert as Brown held a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Coming out of the break, Columbia searched for opportunities to stay in the game. The perfect opportunity appeared in the 65th minute when Sophia Cavaliere capitalized on a turnover and converted for the game-tying goal.

Lauren Rodriguez played all 90 minutes in the net and had a busy afternoon with four saves. Rodriguez made several great plays at the net to keep the Bears off the scoreboard in an effort to preserve the draw.

Ania Prussak and Maia Tabion each tallied three shots to make up six of Columbia's nine total shots. The Lions put four shots on goal with two credited to Nata Ramirez.
