NEW YORK — Columbia Athletics raised a record-breaking $4.51 million on Columbia Giving Day, Campbell Family Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Peter Pilling announced Wednesday.
The figure recorded over the 24-hour event on Tuesday, October 1, surpassed the previous Columbia Athletics' fundraising Giving Day record of $4.13 million set in 2018.
"We are extremely grateful for the support that we received from our Columbia Athletics community on a record-breaking Giving Day," Pilling said. "Their loyalty and dedication to our programs is unmatched and shows what a special place Columbia is. The money raised will help us continue to give our student-athletes a first-class experience in all aspects of their journey at Columbia. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this remarkable achievement."
Athletics posted a total of 5,314 gifts on the day, which was the most of any school or department within the University. Additionally, athletics won four hourly challenges: random gifts between 12-1 a.m., most gifts between 8-9 a.m., most faculty/staff gifts from 12-1 p.m. and most undergraduate G.O.L.D. gifts from 3-4 p.m.) to add $9,000 to its total. Athletics also qualified for an additional $26,500 in bonus money due to the number of gifts received. All of these bonus dollars will benefit the OneROAR Fund.
"Our success on Giving Day is a credit to our entire athletics development team, coaches and alumni leaders," said Director of Athletic Development Erich Ely. "So much is done behind the scenes well before this day every year, and it's amazing to see these efforts pay off for our student-athletes and sport programs. Thank you to everyone who donated and helped us have a banner day."
