Gonzalez Lobo’s Goal Lifts Field Hockey to 3-2 Win at Yale

Lions win back-and-forth match; three of four shots on goal reach back of the cage

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Columbia field hockey defeated Yale, 3-2, on Friday night behind a game-winning goal off a penalty corner from Delfina Gonzalez Lobo with 6:01 left in the fourth quarter.

Gonzalez Lobo scored her first goal of the year and helped give the Lions (4-9, 2-4) a key road victory. Goalkeeper Katie Wimmer recorded nine saves in the win.

Columbia registered just one shot in the scoreless opening frame, while Yale put three shots on the cage that were all stopped by Wimmer.

In the second quarter, the Lions recorded their first shot on goal at 13:45 from Nicole Campolattaro. Wimmer added four more saves to keep Yale off the board and have seven at the half.

Yale took a 1-0 lead at 2:24 of the third period when Ellie Barlow found the back of the cage. Columbia answered shortly after with Jacinta Solari Etcheberry's second goal of the year to tie it at 1-1 with 8:05 left in the quarter. Lizzie Adams was credited with the assist.

Solari Etcheberry then netted her second goal of the night later in the third to put the Lions in front, 2-1. A few minutes later, Yale tied it back up at 2-2 with a goal from Victoria Collee.

The Lions close out their regular season road slate on Lehigh on Sunday at 1 p.m
