Canty was tabbed as Offensive Player of the Week, while Sanchez was named Rookie of the Week
PRINCETON, N.J. — Columbia football wide receiver Bryson Canty was named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week, and quarterback Caleb Sanchez took Rookie of the Week honors after helping the Lions earn a road victory over Brown. Canty picks up the award for the second time this season, while Sanchez is the third different Columbia first-year to be named Rookie of the Week.
Canty set a career-high with 183 receiving yards to go with a pair of touchdowns. He is now up to fifth place on the Lions' all-time list with 1,621 career yards and is tied for fourth with 17 touchdown catches. His nine scores in 2024 are the third most in a single season in program history.
Sanchez threw for 241 yards and three touchdowns in his first career start. He is the first Lions' quarterback to toss three touchdowns in a game since 2022 and the first true first-year to start a game under center since 2018.
Canty and first-year cornerback Carter McCray (Rookie) also gained honorable mention status for the Stats Perform FCS National Players of the Week. McCray, who won Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors the past two weeks, posted an interception, three pass breakups and five tackles against the Bears.
The Lions will wrap up the 2024 season next Saturday, November 23, against the Big Red in the Empire State Bowl. The contest will also be the Columbia Football Players' Club Senior Day, where the program will honor the 34 members of the Class of 2025. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. on ESPN+.
