NEW YORK – The Columbia women's soccer team came up short against Princeton on Saturday afternoon at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium as the Tigers used a free-kick goal in the 64
th minute to earn the 1-0 win.
Columbia finishes the regular season with a 7-4-4 overall record, including a 5-1-1 mark in Ivy League play. The Lions finish second in the Ivy League standings and will play in the Ivy League Tournament next weekend as the No. 2 seed. Columbia will face No. 3 seed Brown in the second semifinal of the tournament at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Roberts Stadium in Princeton, New Jersey.
Columbia and Princeton played a scoreless first half Saturday as the Lions were able to limit the Tigers to just four shots in the first half. Columbia fired seven shots in the first half, putting two on goal.
Princeton controlled possession more during the second half and outshot Columbia, 9-6. The Tigers scored the lone goal of the day in the 64
th minute when Pietra Tordin converted a free kick.
Sam Cohn led the Lions with three shots Saturday.
Sophia Cavaliere,
Charlyse Berry,
Maia Tabion and
Gabby Chan all registered two shots each.
Lauren Rodriguez played all 90 minutes in the net, allowing one goal. Rodriguez had one save in the loss.
UP NEXT
Columbia will face Brown in the Ivy League Tournament on Friday at 1:00 p.m. Friday's game will be the second meeting of the season after the Lions and Bears played to a 1-1 draw in Providence on October 19. Columbia defeated Brown in the Ivy League Tournament semifinals last year to earn a spot in the championship game.
