Men’s Golf Hires Christopher Arkin ‘09CC as Assistant Coach

Former Columbia team captain and Ivy League champion joins coaching staff
NEW YORK — Director of Golf Rich Mueller announced the hire of Christopher Arkin '09CC as an assistant coach on the Columbia men's golf staff on Thursday. Arkin was a four-year member of the Columbia men's golf team.
"I feel so lucky to be surrounded by our outstanding alumni base. Bringing Chris back into the fold, a player who has won two Ivy Championships, makes this unique for our community," Mueller said. "Chris knows golf, plays high-level amateur events in the section and, most importantly, understands what it means to be a Columbia student-athlete. There's no question he'll be an asset to our team on and off the course. What's more, this new position is possible only because of the generosity of our constituents – we're grateful for their role in this as well."
Arkin was a member of Columbia's 2008 and 2009 Ivy League championship teams, including rounds of 73, 74 and 71 to help the Lions to the 2009 title. As a sophomore, he won the 2006 Penn Big 5 Classic in a playoff. He was also a First Team All-Ivy League selection as a first-year after finishing fifth individually at the Ivy League Championship.
"I am very appreciative to Coach Mueller and the program for the opportunity to come back," Arkin said. "I look forward to getting to work."
Arkin graduated from Columbia in May of 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in political science. He went on to earn a law degree at Tulane University Law School, where he was also the managing editor of the Sports Lawyers Journal. He has since enjoyed a successful career as an attorney in private practice.
Arkin resides in New York City with his wife and young daughter.
