No. 28 Women’s Tennis Drops Road Contest at No. 2 Michigan

Columbia faces Michigan State on Sunday to finish the weekend
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The 28th-ranked Columbia women's tennis team dropped a road contest to No. 2 Michigan, 4-0, Friday evening at the Varsity Tennis Center.
Columbia moves to 9-2 overall this season as its seven-match win streak comes to an end. Michigan improves to 10-3 this spring.
The Wolverines took control by claiming the doubles point to start the dual match. The Michigan duo of Piper Charney and Reese Miller posted a 6-1 win over Rachele Rimondini and Winta Tewolde in the No. 3 doubles. Julia Fliegner and Lily Jones sealed the doubles point for Michigan with a 6-3 victory against Gayathri Krishnan and Sophia Strugnell in the No. 2 spot.
Anna Zhang and Sophia Wang faced No. 5 Kari Miller and Jaedan Brown in the top doubles. Miller and Brown held a 5-3 lead, but the match was abandoned once the Wolverines clinched the doubles point.
No. 111 Charney extended the Michigan lead to start singles action with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Wang in the No. 6 singles match. 46th-ranked Gala Mesochoritou followed that up with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Krishnan in the No. 3 spot to put the Wolverines in front, 3-0.
No. 64 Jones clinched the Michigan win with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Natacha Schou in the No. 5 singles.
Fatima Keita fought to take the first set against No. 107 Brown, 7-5, but the match went unfinished as Michigan clinched the 4-0 win.
