Columbia will face No. 2 Michigan and No. 70 Michigan State on the trip
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The 28th-ranked Columbia women's tennis team is back in action this weekend with matches at No. 2 Michigan on Friday and No. 70 Michigan State on Sunday.
The Lions start the weekend trip with a match at No. 2 Michigan on Friday at 5 p.m. before wrapping up the weekend at No. 70 Michigan State on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Columbia is 9-1 overall this season and has won seven matches in a row entering this weekend. The Lions are coming off a thrilling, 4-3 win over Yale to claim the 2024 ECAC Championship.
This is Columbia's first ECAC title since the Lions won back-to-back championships in 2019 and 2020. The Lions defeated Ivy League foes Dartmouth, Brown and Yale to bring home the trophy.
"We put in a lot of work on and off the court in the fall and during pre-season, focusing a lot on team culture, and we are starting to see some of it pay off," Columbia Women's Tennis Assistant Coach Nika Kukharchuk said. "This team deserves it, everyone fought extremely hard, stayed focused and stepped up in their roles. We had great team energy. As coaches we couldn't be prouder of how our players went about everything."
Michigan sits at 8-3 overall this season. The Wolverines will play NC State on Thursday afternoon before hosting Columbia Friday. Michigan has dropped back-to-back matches to No. 3 Oklahoma State and No. 17 USC. The Wolverines have registered six wins over Top-15 opponents this season.
Michigan State is 6-3 overall so far after posting a 5-2 win over Xavier last Sunday. The Spartans have won five of their last six duals entering this weekend.
