Men’s Squash Falls to Penn in Potter Cup Quarterfinals

Columbia meets Virginia in a consolation match Saturday
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The sixth-ranked Columbia men's squash team's run to the Potter Cup came to an end with an 8-1 loss to No. 3 Penn on Friday afternoon at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center.
With the loss in the quarterfinals of the CSA National Collegiate Team Championships, the Lions will now move to the consolation bracket. Columbia will play No. 10 Virginia at 11 a.m. Saturday. The winner will move on to play one more match Sunday.
Columbia will be looking for its second win against Virginia this season. The Lions opened the season with a 7-2 win over the then seventh-ranked Cavaliers at home in November.
Penn battled to earn wins up and down the lineup in the win over Columbia Friday. Adam Goad secured Columbia's only win of the match with a 3-1 win over Shaam Gambhir in the No. 9 spot. Goad and Gambhir split the first two games before Goad won the next two to claim the 11-8, 7-11, 11-9, 11-5 victory.
Harold Castiaux, Jacob Bulbulia and Zach Nam were all defeated in three games by their opponents from Penn. Shaurya Bawa and Laszlo Godde fell in four games.
Rutvik Rau got out to a big start in the No. 8 position against Penn's Rehan Luthra. Rau claimed the first two games before Luthra responded by winning the next two to force a fifth game. Luthra continued his momentum to capture a 9-11, 12-14, 11-5, 11-5, 11-4 win.
