Baseball Tripped Up at Fresno State

Skye Selinsky homered twice in the defeat

FRESNO, Calif. - The Columbia baseball team dropped a 15-4 decision at Fresno State Sunday afternoon. Skye Selinsky went deep twice and drove in three runs for the Lions, who fell to 3-7 on the season.

Selinsky and Jack Cooper (2-for-4) had four of Columbia's six hits on the day.

The Lions jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after a two-run shot by Skye Selinsky in the top of the first inning. However, the Bulldogs capitalized on a wild start from JD Ogden to tie the game in the bottom of the frame.

After a leadoff single, a pair of hit Fresno State batters loaded the bases, and a wild pitch made it a one-run game. Grady Morgan followed with an RBI groundout to knot things up before a groundout to third prevented any further damage.

Fresno State loaded the bases again in the second and Rocco Peppi cleared them all with a grand slam to put the Bulldogs on top, 6-2. In the bottom of the third, a pair of sacrifice flies extended the lead to six.

Selinsky went deep for the second time in the fourth, ripping an 0-2 pitch over the wall in left to bring the Lions within 8-3.

Thomas Santana tossed a pair of shutout frames before the Bulldogs went off for five runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

The Lions did not go away quietly, putting two on and Kyle Corso delivered a two-out RBI single, but the Bulldogs induced a fly ball for the final out.

Ogden took the loss (0-2) after lasting just two innings.

The Lions will remain in California to take on Santa Clara on Tuesday, March 12. First pitch is slated for 9 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
