Softball Dominates Sacred Heart, 11-1

Columbia splits Saturday’s doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – The Columbia softball team split its doubleheader Saturday, losing to Troy in the first game before bouncing back to defeat Sacred Heart in five innings, 11-1. The Lions move to 2-7 overall this season.

Shortstop Jaden Hill accounted for all four of Columbia's runs in the 13-4 loss to Troy to get Saturday started. Hill was 2-for-3 at the plate in the loss.
 
Troy came out and stole the momentum in the top of the first inning with 10 runs scored on nine hits. The Trojans plated another run in the second and added a two-spot in the fourth to finish off the 13-4 run-rule win in five innings.
 
Hill stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the first frame to lead things off for the Lions. She launched a solo shot over the center field wall to put Columbia on the scoreboard.
 
Hill struck again in the bottom of the fourth inning with a three-run homer over the center field wall again. Maddie Souza and Payton Shimansky set up the play for Hill with back-to-back base hits to start the inning.
 
Sarah Mikami (0-3) was charged with the loss as she allowed five runs on three hits in the first inning. Charlotte Laidler came in and allowed five runs on six hits. Lily McCord settled in and worked the final 4.1 innings as she gave up three runs on seven hits.
 
Sacred Heart Recap
The Columbia offense erupted to score 11 runs on 10 hits in the second game Saturday. The Lions plated three in the first inning to take an early lead. Columbia tacked on two runs in the third inning, four runs in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth inning to finish off the 11-1 run-rule victory.
 
Mikami led the Lions as she was 3-for3 at the plate with three RBI. Caroline Palys and Cami Neal both went 2-for-3 in the game. Palys tallied two RBI.
 
Raquel Reyes (2-3) earned her second win of the season as she fired all 5.0 innings. Reyes allowed just one run on three hits. She struck out three in the outing.
 
ON DECK
Columbia plays its third doubleheader in three days Sunday. The Lions will face Bucknell in the first game at 10:00 a.m. before capping the day off against Sienna at 12:00 p.m.
