First-year guard earns third selection of the season
PRINCETON, N.J. – Columbia first-year Riley Weiss has been named Ivy League Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week. The league office announced its honorees for games played March 4-10 on Monday afternoon.
A native of nearby Hewlett, New York, Weiss scored 17 points in 22 minutes off the bench to help the Lions to a convincing, 82-46, victory at Cornell on Saturday. She was a career-best 7-for-9 from the field, including 3-for-5 from downtown. Weiss netted 10 fourth-quarter points to polish off the win, which clinched Columbia's second straight Ivy League Regular Season Championship.
This is Weiss's third Ivy League Rookie of the Week selection of the season. For the year, she averages 7.9 points per game, shooting 42.9 percent from the field and just shy of 35 percent from 3-point range.
Kitty Henderson was named to this week's Ivy League Honor Roll. Henderson posted her third double-double of the season to lead Columbia on Saturday, scoring a game-high 19 points and matching her career-high of 11 rebounds.
Columbia (22-5, 13-1) now gets set for the 2024 Ivy League Women's Basketball Tournament, which the Lions hosting, March 15-16, at Levien Gymnasium. The second-seeded Lions will take on third-seeded Harvard (16-11, 9-5) in the semifinals on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will air live on ESPN+.
