LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Columbia softball team fell to Ohio State in five innings, 9-0, Friday in the first game of the John Cropp Classic hosted by Kentucky.
Ohio State scored seven runs in the first inning and didn't look back as the Buckeyes finished with the 9-0 win in five innings. The Buckeyes added two more runs in the fourth to finish the game.
Lily McCord (1-2) suffered the loss as she allowed four runs.
Raquel Reyes came in and tossed 4.0 innings, allowing five runs on four hits.
Payton Shimansky recorded Columbia's lone hit of the game. She hit a two-out single through the left side in the top of the second inning, but was left stranded.
ON DECK
Columbia returns to the field Saturday for a doubleheader. The Lions will start with South Dakota State at 10:00 a.m. before finishing the day against No. 23 Kentucky at 3:00 p.m.
