HOUSTON, Texas – The 31^st-ranked Columbia women's tennis team got back into the win column with a 4-1 victory over Rice on Friday afternoon at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
 
Columbia won the doubles point and earned wins in three singles matches to improve to 11-3 overall this season.
 
The Lions claimed wins in the No. 2 and 3 doubles to start the match with the lead. The duo of Gayathri Krishnan and Sophia Strugnell posted a 6-3 win over Rice's Saara Orav and Darya Schwartzman in the No. 2 doubles. Rachele Rimondini and Winta Tewolde sealed the doubles point for the Lions with a 6-4 victory against Anushka Ashar and Divna Ratkovic at the No. 3 spot.
 
Fatima Keita extended the Columbia lead to kick off singles play. Keita downed Ratkovic in two set, 6-1, 6-3. Sophia Wang then secured a 6-4, 6-0 win over Nithesa Selvaraj in the No. 6 singles to give Columbia a 3-0 advantage.
 
Rice's Revisan helped Rice avoid the sweep with a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Julia Haynes in the top singles.
 
Anna Zhang clinched Columbia's 4-1 win as she fought through three sets to post a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 win against Schwartzman in the No. 2 singles.
 
Columbia will finish the weekend by playing Tulsa in a neutral site match at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Sunday. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m. ET.
