Baseball Wins Ninth Straight With 14-2 Victory Over Fordham

Lions belt 13 hits; pitching staff strikes out 12

NEW YORK — Columbia baseball won its ninth straight game on Wednesday afternoon with a convincing 14-2 victory over Fordham from Robertson Field at Satow Stadium.

Columbia is now 36-6 at home since the beginning of 2022 and 11-1 this season. The Lions move to 14-12 (8-1) this season while Fordham drops to 11-20 (3-3).

Reigning Ivy League Player of the Week Jack Cooper recorded his fifth five-RBI game of the season. He leads the conference with 39 RBIs. Jagger Edwards, Brandon Madrigal, Martin Zhang, JD Ogden, and Griffin Palfrey all tossed scoreless outings on the mound. The Columbia pitching staff combined for 12 strikeouts.

Columbia jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Cole Hage got the scoring started with his eighth home run of the season. The Lions scored two more on a wild pitch and an Anton Lazits sacrifice fly.

The Lions then poured five runs in the home fourth. The inning was capped by a Cole Fellows infield single that brought in Lazits and Skye Selinsky to make it 8-0.

In the fifth inning, Cooper crushed his 11th home run of the year to give the Lions an 11-0 lead. Dean Reynolds smacked the first extra-base hit of his career with a pinch-hit two-run double in the eighth inning that gave Columbia a 12-run advantage.

Columbia hosts Yale for a three-game series on Alumni Weekend. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 11:30 a.m. and Sunday's series finale starts at 12 p.m. Saturday is also Lou Gehrig ALS Day.
