Lions impress at Wake Forrest Invite and Virginia Challenge
NEW YORK — The Columbia outdoor track & field team set seven new program records over the weekend, with impressive performances at both the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville and the Wake Forrest Invite in Winston-Salem.
The most impressive record of the bunch came from Joshua Adams in the long jump at the Virginia Challenge. He shattered a Columbia program record that stood since 1959 in the event with a mark of 7.61m which helped him secure first place in the event.
Also in Charlottesville, Obiora Okeke and McKinlee Morris had huge performances in the shot put. After setting program records in the men's and women's events last week at the Miami Alumni Invitational, they both broke their own record this weekend. Okeke won the men's event with a record-breaking mark of 18.58m, while Morris set a record with a mark of 13,56m.
Additionally at the Virginia Challenge, Camylin Blake matched a program record in the women's outdoor 100m hurdles with a time of 13.77 which was good for fifth place.
Meanwhile in Winston-Salem, Columbia's distance runners showed up and showed out. Phoebe Anderson led the way placing, first in the women's 5,000m, setting a Columbia outdoor record in the process with a time of 15:29.02. This time is also the second fastest time in the history of the Ivy League.
Nikki Vanasse's strong year continued, as she set a new program record in the 1,500m with a time of 4:11.39. This time was also the fifth fastest in Ivy League history.
In the men's 5,000m, Charlie Siebert set a new Columbia record with a time of 13:49.91.
