Lions finish fifth at Ivy League Championship
GREENWICH, Conn. — Columbia sophomore Yoko Tai shot a final-round 1-under-par 71 to finish top 10 at the 2024 Ivy League Women's Golf Championship. The championship concluded on Sunday at The Stanwich Club.
Tai vaulted seven spots up the leaderboard for her second consecutive top 10 while capturing Second Team All-Ivy League honors. She finished 9-over par for the championship (76-78-71—225). The top 10 and ties earned All-Ivy accolades.
"The spring that Yoko put together was super solid and I'm thrilled that she was able to put together this type of weekend to finish off the season," head coach Amy Weeks said. "You look at a player like that, she came in a good player, worked on her golf swing so hard to make it a little bit better and you see the results. She's always had a great short game – she's always been a good putter – and she's really worked so hard to get here."
Tai's 71 was solid, carding 15 pars, two birdies and just a single bogey all day. She birdied the par-4 third and bogeyed the par-3 eighth to make the turn at even. The native of Singapore then birdied the par-4 11th to get into red figures and stayed there the rest of the day, concluding her round with seven straight pars.
"I thought it was really good to have this lineup get that type of experience out there this year," Weeks added. "For Paige to do that at an Ivy League Championship says a lot about her growth as a player. She was in contention for the individual title heading into today and we were all really excited about that. Everybody had great moments out there this weekend and we'll take that and continue to develop with most of this lineup coming back next year.
"I also want to honor the leadership of two seniors, Anne Walsh and Allison Paik. Their leadership was so evident with the success of the underclassmen. The way this team melds together, works together and supports each other. I also want to acknowledge the alumni, the parents and even the parents of alumni who were out there supporting us all weekend. It was just really really cool to have that. We just want to thank everybody who came out for all of their support."
As a team, the Lions finished fifth at 58-over par (307-308-307—922). Dartmouth won the title at 35-over.
The Ivy League Championship concludes Columbia's 2023-24 season.
