Shao, Chang named to All-Championship Team
SPRINGFIELD, N.J. — The Columbia women's golf team is Ivy League Champions for the first time in nearly two decades. The Lions overcame a two-shot deficit with their best round of the tournament, defeating Harvard by seven shots to hoist the trophy at Baltusrol Golf Club.
This is Columbia's first Ivy League Women's Golf Championship since 2007. Sophomores Sarah Shao and Christine Chang led the Lions to the title. Shao posted a final-round 3-over-par 75 to finish the tournament in solo third at 8 over par. Chang was the MVP of the day, carding five birdies on her way to a 3-under-par 69, the lowest round by any competitor at the 2026 Championship and tied for her best round of the season. Chang climbed 12 spots up the Sunday leaderboard to finish in a four-way tie for fourth at 9 over par. Both Shao and Chang were named to the Ivy League All-Championship Team.
"It feels like a really proud moment for all the hard work the team has put in," 12th-year head coach Amy Weeks said. "This is a day-to-day experience with these guys and every day is a great day with them.
"This morning, I said, 'Ladies, this is just every day of hard work – the same work you do every day. This is just another day of your hard work.' They are a happy bunch. They are really fun kids to be around and I'm super blessed to have them representing Columbia."
Four of Colombia's six players finished in the top 10, and five landed in the top 12. First year Kristina Xu (+10) tied for seventh and posted a final-round 2-over-par 74. First year Camille Thai (+12) was tied for ninth and first year Bridget Chantharath (+16) tied for 11th. Another first year, Emily Zeng, shot her best round of the tournament of 1-over 73. Chang's 69, Zeng's 73, Xu's 74 and Chantharath's 74 were Columbia's four counting rounds on Sunday.
Baltusrol took on a lot of rain on Saturday but still played firm and fair. Players teed off under overcast skies with temperatures right around 50 degrees on Sunday. It slowly warmed up and skies cleared about midway through the round to make for a fantastic finish.
"Baltusrol is a very special place for golf," Weeks went on to say. "The care that they put into this place is phenomenal. You knew you were going to get a perfect lie and you knew the greens were going to roll true. It gives a player such a sense of peace that you can play good shots and be rewarded for those along the way. I woke up this morning knowing that no matter what happened with the weather yesterday, this golf course was going to be perfect and ready for us."
Columbia will learn which of the six regional sites it will compete at during the 2026 NCAA Women's Golf Selection Show, which airs on the Golf Channel this Wednesday, April 29, at 4 p.m. ET. This year's regional sites are Ann Arbor, Michigan; Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Simpsonville, Kentucky; Tallahassee, Florida; Waco, Texas; and Stanford, California.
