Baseball Powers Past Dartmouth for Second-Straight Ivy Sweep

Lions outscore Big Green 46-20 over the weekend

HANOVER, N.H. — Columbia baseball defeated Dartmouth 8-1 in game one before sweeping the series with a 19-13 win in game two of Sunday's doubleheader from Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park.

Columbia (13-12, 8-1) has won eight games in a row and just swept its second straight Ivy League series. The Lions belted six home runs this weekend off the Dartmouth (7-15, 2-7) pitching staff and have now swept the Big Green in back-to-back series. Columbia holds a two-game lead over Cornell for first place in the league standings.

Game 1 Recap

Columbia scratched its first runs across in the second inning. Eric Jeon lifted a sacrifice fly to score Jack Cooper, then a double steal from Sam Miller and Anton Lazits made it 2-0 Lions.

Lazits added a sacrifice fly in the third inning on a deep flyout near the center field fence to give Columbia a 3-0 lead. Another double steal attempt scored another run with two outs in the inning to make it 4-0.

Columbia would blow open an 8-0 lead after five innings. Jeon drove in a run on a triple and Griffin Palfrey had an RBI double in the fourth. Cooper blasted his ninth home run of the season in the fifth inning.

Starter Joe Sheets earned his second straight win after a strong 6-inning performance in which he allowed just one run on three hits. He struck out five and walked two. Brandon Madrigal took care of the final three innings, earning his second-career save and notching his fifth scoreless outing of the season.

Game 2 Recap

Columbia took the lead first for the third straight game in the opening inning on a Skye Selinsky RBI double. The Lions then tacked on three more runs in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. Jeon had an RBI single and the other two runs came unearned.

The Lions exploded for five runs in the fifth inning. Selinsky and Cooper went back-to-back to make it 6-0. Later in the inning, Owen Estabrook, Cole Hage, and Palfrey each had an RBI single to push Columbia's lead to 9-0.

All nine starters recorded a hit and run in the series finale. The Lions opened a 13-2 lead in the sixth and led by as many as 15 heading into the home ninth. Columbia managed to hold off a nine-run ninth inning from Dartmouth.
