Baseball Drops Regular Season Finale at Wagner

Lions set single-season record for runs scored

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Columbia baseball fell in its season finale at Wagner, 13-8, on Tuesday from SIUH Community Park.

The Seahawks (24-26, 20-10) used an eight-run eighth inning to storm in front and earn the win. Columbia (26-16, 17-4) belted seven hits in the loss.

Wagner took an early 4-0 lead in the home first inning on a grand slam. Sam Miller got Columbia on the board in the second with an RBI double. The Seahawks then made it 5-1 the next half inning on a run-scoring double.

Columbia set a new single-season record for runs scored in the third inning on a Cole Fellows two-run double, giving the Lions 404 on the year. Anton Lazits and Jack Cooper came across to give Columbia a 6-5 advantage on the two-base hit.

The Lions tacked on two more runs to lead 8-5 in the sixth inning when Skye Selinsky drove in another run on a double and Cooper recorded an RBI groundout. Selinsky now has 21 doubles on the season, which ties Matt Buckmiller's single-season record set in 2002.

On the mound, Baylor Hicks, Justin Bowman, Griffin Palfrey, and Andrew Argenziano each tossed scoreless outings.

Columbia hosts the Ivy League Tournament from Robertson Field at Satow Stadium, which is set for May 17-20. The Lions take on No. 4 seed Penn on Friday at 3 p.m.
