STATESBORO, Ga. — Columbia won the USA Archery Recurve College Women's Team National Championship at the 2024 USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals. The event was held over the weekend at Georgia Southern University's Shooting Sports Education Center.
Junior
Judith Gottlieb, first-year
Michelle Ahn and first-year
Eunice Choi teamed up to win the recurve title. The trio posted the highest score in the qualifying round (1,875), took down Pikeville, 5-3, in the semifinals and outdueled Cumberlands, 6-2, in the finals.
Additionally, five Lions were named All-Americans, which included Gottlieb, Ahn, Choi, sophomore
Lillian Han and sophomore
Giselle DeSousa. Among the 10 recurve All-Americans, Choi had the highest combined score (18.236) to rank first. Gottlieb ranked second (17.981). USA Archery determines its All-Americans by combining each archer's qualifying round scores from Indoor Nationals and Collegiate Target Nationals. There are 10 All-Americans named in both the Collegiate Compound Women and Collegiate Recurve Women.
At the weekend's individual competition, Choi capped off an outstanding rookie campaign by winning bronze in collegiate recurve. She qualified first (635), swept her 1/16th Round and 1/8th Round matches and posted a 6-2 win over Chapman's eighth-seeded Marjorie Stemmler to reach the semifinals. Choi was upset in the semis by fifth-seeded Alyssa Artz of Texas A&M, but bounced back to win her Bronze Medal Match against Bella Barrett of Pikeville, 6-2.
Gottlieb qualified third and Ahn qualified fourth in collegiate recurve. Gottlieb advanced to the quarters before falling to Barrett. Ahn fell to Artz in the quarters, 6-4, after a close, 25-24, fifth end.
