Women’s Golf Introduces Newcomers

Three first-years join the Lions
NEW YORK — The Columbia women's golf team and head coach Amy Weeks officially introduced three newcomers to the 2024-25 roster on Thursday. Joining the Lions are Christine Chang, Emily Luo and Sarah Shao.
"Coach Katie [Rudolph] and I are excited to get started this September with the additions of Christine, Emily and Sarah," Weeks said. "They all bring a standard of competitive readiness that our program needs to compete for championships in the Ivy League. Our expectation is that they will strongly impact our roster and immediately become leaders on the golf course and in the classroom."

Christine Chang – 5-3 – Fr. – Auburn, Ala. / Lee Scott Academy
Christine Chang joins the Columbia roster after playing four years of varsity golf for Lee Scott Academy in Auburn, Alabama. She was a three-time Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) All-Tournament Team selection who helped guide the Warriors to the 2022 AISA State Championship, as well as a runner-up finish in 2024. Outside of high school competition, Chang qualified for the 75th U.S. Girls' Junior Championship and advanced to the Round of 32. Academically, she is a member of the National English Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society, National Science Honor Society and Rho Kappa National Honor Society. Chang is also an AP Scholar, recipient of the English Master Award, an Honor Graduate and a Lee Scott Student-Athlete Honor Award recipient.
Emily Luo – 5-5 – Fr. – Danville, Calif. / Monte Vista
Joining the Lions from the San Francisco Bay Area Town of Danville is Emily Luo. A four-year letterwinner at Monte Vista High School, Luo owns 11 top-10 finishes in AJGA Open tournaments, including two runner-ups and one third-place finish. She has qualified and competed in several prestigious events, including the 2022 and '23 U.S. Girls' Junior and Girls Junior PGA Championships, 2023 Rolex Tournament of Champions and the 2024 Rolex Girls Junior Championship. One of her more notable rounds was a 4-under with six consecutive birdies in the first round of the 2022 Girls Junior PGA. She also finished sixth at the 2023 Bubba Conlee Junior at 4-under for the tournament, owns a top-10 at the 2023 California State Championship and shot a 1-over at Pinehurst No. 2 at the 2024 North & South Women's Amateur. Luo served as team captain at Monte Vista and led her team to the 2022 California State title. Academically, Luo is an AP Scholar with Distinction, Rolex Scholastic Junior All-American and member of the National Honor Society.
Sarah Shao – 5-5 – Fr. – Green Brook, N.J. / The Wardlaw+Hartridge School
A native of nearby Green Brook Township across the Hudson River, Sarah Shao is the younger sister of Columbia women's golf alumna Christine Shao '23CC. A decorated amateur golfer in her own right, Sarah has previously qualified for the 75th U.S. Girls' Junior Championship this past year, as well as the 73rd edition in 2022. She is also a 2024 Junior PGA Championship qualifier, which took place at Congressional. Among her notable finishes, Shao was runner-up at both the 2024 New Jersey State Junior Girls' Championship and 2024 NJ Junior PGA Championship. The two-time MVP of Wardlaw+Hartridge owns two AJGA Open wins, both of which came in 2022. She is also a Rolex Junior All-American Honorable Mention and owns a top Rolex AJGA ranking of No. 42. On the academic side, Shao is a multi-time AP Scholar, a member of the Chinese National Honor Society and was awarded the 2024 Wigton Cup at Wardlaw+Hartridge as the most outstanding senior female athlete.
