9/12/2024 5:12:00 PM | Women's Tennis
Columbia opens the fall season starting Friday
NEW YORK – The Columbia women's tennis team will open the fall season at home by hosting the Columbia Invitational starting Friday and lasting until Sunday at the Philip and Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center.
Columbia will welcome Indiana, Cornell, Stony Brook, Wagner and Hofstra to the Milstein Family Tennis Center this weekend to compete in a hidden dual tournament format. Teams will play one set of doubles with no advantage. Two sets of singles will be played with a 10-point tiebreaker in lieu of a third set.
The hidden dual format resembles dual play during the spring season, but no team scores are counted during the fall. All doubles and singles results are credited individually. The Columbia Invitational is the first event of the fall for the Lions as players are working toward earning a spot in the NCAA singles and doubles championships that will now be played at the end of the fall season instead of the spring.
Columbia will open play this weekend at 11 a.m. Friday with doubles and singles play against Stony Brook. The Lions will then play matches with Cornell at 2 p.m. Saturday before finishing the weekend in action with Indiana at 10 a.m. Sunday. Streaming and live stats will be available only for the matches Columbia plays.
Columbia women's tennis alumni will also be hosting events during the tournament this weekend for fans and alumni. Rachele Rimondini '24CC and Tatiana Ziff '24CC will host an event Saturday afternoon on the rooftop while Columbia is playing. Light refreshments and snacks will be available for alumni and fans. On Sunday, Leslie Gittess '88CC will host a bagel breakfast during Columbia's matches starting at 10 a.m.
