
Four Lions Set to Compete at ITA Women’s All-American Championships

Lions head to North Carolina to compete
CARY, N.C. – Columbia women's tennis players Gayathri Krishnan, Malak El Allami, Fatima Keita and Sophia Strugnell will represent the Lions at the ITA Women's All-American Championships starting this weekend at the Cary Tennis Park.
The ITA Women's All-American Championships are set to start on Saturday, September 21 and last until Sunday, September 29. The championships will have a draw size of the following, Singles: Pre-Qualifying (128), Qualifying (64), Main Draw (64) and Doubles: Pre-Qualifying (32), Qualifying (32), Main Draw (32). From this, ten singles players (10) will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship (eight main draw quarterfinalists & two feed-in consolation finalists). Meanwhile, four doubles teams (4) will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship through the All-American Championships (four main draw semifinalists).
Krishnan, El Allami and Keita will get the weekend started in the prequalifying singles draw. The doubles teams of El Allami and Keita and Krishnan and Strugnell will start in the prequalifying doubles draw. All first-round prequalifying matches will be played Saturday.
Krishnan secured the No. 2 seed in singles prequalifying and will face Oklahoma State's Gracie Epps in her first-round match. El Allami will meet No. 5 seed Ana Vilcek (Hawaii) in the first round of singles. Keita is the No. 17 seed and will play Scarlett Nicholson (Georgia Tech) in her first match Saturday.
In doubles action, Krishnan and Strugnell will team up to play No. 1 seed Bridget Stammel and Valeria Ray (Vanderbilt). El Allami and Keita will meet Clemson's Amelie Smejkalova and Sophia Hatton.
