NEW YORK — The accolades continued to flow on Monday for the Columbia football team after its 31-20 upset victory over No. 14/18 Lafayette on Saturday. The Lions were selected as the Stats Perform National FCS Team of the Week and received votes in the latest edition of the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll.
Columbia received 21 votes from selected media members, the most of the three Ivy League schools (Harvard—19, Yale—3) considered for rankings. It marks the first time the program has received votes in a poll since the 2021 season.
The Lions never trailed against the Patriot League favorite while successfully kicking off the Jon Poppe coaching era. Chase Goodwin passed for a pair of touchdowns in the first half, and Cole Freeman did the same in the second half, with Bryson Canty hauling in one score from each quarterback. Defensive back Hayden McDonald had 10 tackles.
The Lions will travel to Georgetown on Saturday, September 28, at 12:30 p.m. on ESPN+, where they will battle for the Lou Little Trophy.
