Challenging non-conference slate includes ten 2024 postseason teams
NEW YORK – The 2024-25 Columbia women's basketball schedule was announced on Tuesday. Led by ninth-year head coach Megan Griffith '07CC, the Lions will once again test themselves against some of the nation's top programs. The season opener takes place at Columbia's Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium on Monday, November 4. All available game times are listed on the women's basketball schedule page on GoColumbiaLions.com.
Ten of Columbia's 13 non-conference games will come against teams that competed in last year's NCAA Tournament, WBIT or WNIT, which includes each of their first nine opponents. Four of those games are guaranteed NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago, hosting Florida Gulf Coast (Nov. 11), facing off against Indiana in the opener of the Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis (Nov. 23), visiting Cameron Indoor Stadium for the first time to battle Duke (Dec. 1) and traveling to reigning Atlantic 10 champion Richmond (Dec. 8). A potential for two additional games against the 2024 NCAA field await Columbia in the Bahamas. The gauntlet of postseason opponents also includes 2024 WBIT participant Stony Brook (Nov. 4), a trip to WBIT runner-up Villanova (Nov. 16) and two more games against WNIT selections Providence (Nov. 8) and Pacific (Nov. 20).
In total, Columbia's non-conference schedule includes three guaranteed games against teams that finished inside last year's NET Top 50 – there is the potential for two more NET Top 50 games in the Bahamas. The slate also includes seven guaranteed and an eighth potential game against teams that finished inside last year's NET Top 100.
The Lions are coming off a 23-7, 13-1 Ivy League, campaign from a year ago. They won their second straight Ivy League regular season championship and earned the program's first NCAA Tournament selection, receiving an at-large bid and a No. 12 seed to the 2024 Big Dance. The 2023-24 season also saw Columbia defeat three power-conference opponents, take down a Top 25 team for the first time in program history and win a program-record 11 consecutive games.
The Lions will raise their 2024 NCAA Tournament and Ivy League Championship banners prior to the season opener against Stony Brook. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Their four non-conference home games later include a clash of mid-major powerhouses when Florida Gulf Coast visits Levien Gym on Monday, November 11. The Eagles have made each of the last seven NCAA Tournaments as either an 11, 12 or 13 seed. Pacific (Nov. 20) and San Francisco (Dec. 4) make return trips to NYC to round out Columbia's non-conference home games.
The Ivy League season begins with three straight on the road. The Lions open against Penn at The Palestra on Saturday, January 4, followed by two more Saturdays at Cornell (Jan. 11) and Yale (Jan. 18).
The Ivy League home opener will come against Princeton on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, January 20. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Columbia will also be home the following Saturday to complete its season series against the Quakers.
