NEW YORK — Senior outside hitter Eva Atkins turned in a dominant performance with 15 kills on .652 hitting, but Columbia came up short against Yale, falling 10-25, 13-25, 22-25 on Friday night at Levien Gymnasium.
Atkins carried the offensive load for the Lions (2–12, 0–4 Ivy), accounting for more than half of Columbia's 29 kills without committing an error on 23 attempts. Elena Maynulet added seven kills and a pair of blocks, while Juliana Williamson chipped in three kills and four block assists.
Setters Ruby van der Heide and Clara Yu combined for 20 assists, and Delaney Seaman led the back row with seven digs.
After a slow start, Columbia showed its best volleyball in the third set, hitting .323 and going point-for-point with the Bulldogs (7–5, 3–1 Ivy). The Lions used a balanced attack and strong serving to grab a 19–16 lead behind back-to-back kills from Atkins and a service ace by Madison Hsieh. Yale, however, closed on a 9–3 run to complete the sweep.
Yale finished with two players in double figures in kills, led by Laurece Abraham's team-high 15 kills on 19 swings. Chidera Chuwumerije finished with 12 kills on 15 swings. As a team, the Bulldogs hit .434, finishing with 52 kills on 99 swings with just nine attack errors. Arya Jue had a match-high 24 digs, and Hallee Sherlock finished with 36 assists.
Columbia returns to Levien Gymnasium on Saturday to host Brown, wrapping up its season-long five-match homestand. Saturday's contest against the Bears will be the Lions' annual Pride Match.
