Field Hockey Drops Hard-Fought Battle at No. 4 Harvard

The Lions held the Crimson scoreless through the first 54:31 of the match

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Columbia field hockey gave No. 4 Harvard a tough fight on Friday afternoon at Berylson Field, but fell 2-0 after two fourth quarter goals from the Crimson.

Columbia goalkeeper Margot Houle turned away nine shots and the Lions' defense successfully defended 10 Harvard penalty corners. Columbia's lone shot of the match came on goal from Agustina Solari Etcheberry with 9:20 left in the second quarter.

Houle kept the Lions (6-7, 1-5) in the match well into the fourth quarter. The sophomore tallied four saves in the third quarter.

Harvard (14-0, 6-0) received shots on goal from eight different players and finally found the back of the cage with 5:29 to play. Emily Bronckers got the Crimson on the board before Lara Beekhuis added insurance with 32 seconds remaining.

Columbia hosts Sacred Heart on Sunday at 12 p.m. for Senior Day. The Lions will recognize seniors Sam Petrucco and Sophia Abate in a pregame ceremony.
