Lions fall to the Bulldogs, 194-106
Columbia opened the meet with a runner-up finish in the 200 Medley Relay, as the team of Isaac Beers, Joshua Corn, Brian Lee, and Zion James clocked a 1:27.35.
Beers led the Lions with a win in the 100 back (47.38) and a narrow second-place finish in the 200 back (1:46.10). Corn also had a standout day, taking second in both the 100 breast (54.29) and 200 breast (1:57.75).
Adam Wu placed second in the 200 fly (1:47.35) and added another strong leg in the final relay, while first year Derek Hitchens took third in the 200 free (1:36.91) and fourth in the 100 free (45.42). Gian Santos posted runner-up finishes in both the 200 free (1:36.15) and 200 IM (1:49.54).
Sprinter Zion James finished second in the 50 free (20.02) and again in the 100 free (43.95).
In the distance events, junior Zach Vasser led Columbia with a second-place finish in the 500 free (4:32.11) and another runner-up showing in the 1000 free (9:15.90).
Columbia closed the meet on a high note, as the 400 free relay team of Wu, Sam Eckert, Hitchens, and James placed second with a time of 2:58.07.
On the boards, sophomore Will Cooley finished second in the 3-meter dive (331.05), and senior Joseph Nicol took second on 1-meter (310.35). Both scores qualified for NCAA Zones.
"In a continuation of two strong seasons we saw two more NCAA Zone scores for Will on 3 meter and Joe on 1 meter," Head Diving Coach Scott Donie said. "We have more work to do and we are ready to get back at it!"
The Lions will return to Uris Natatorium on Friday, November 21 against Harvard. The dual meet will begin at 5 p.m.
