Fencing Heads to Western Invitational

The two-day event features eight rounds of action for each team
NEW YORK — The Columbia fencing team is back in action this weekend at the Western Invitational, hosted by Air Force from November 22-23. The Lions will face Northwestern, Stanford, UC San Diego, Incarnate Word, Tufts, Air Force, Brandeis, Denison and Ohio State at the two-day event. Both programs the women have nine matchups, while the men will fence eight times, and all the action can be seen on Air Force's YouTube channel.

LAST TIME OUT
Columbia showed why it has the No. 1 men's and No. 2 women's programs in the country in its season opener on November 9. Both programs went 3-0 at the Columbia Invitational, topping Stevens, NJIT and Johns Hopkins.
Evelyn Cheng and Rachael Kim both finished at 7-0 on the day, with Alanna Xue finishing at 6-0 and Mikayla Chusid at 6-1 for women's foil. For the men, Colby Harley ended the day at 7-0 with Nick Harvey at 7-2 in men's sabre. In men's foil, Marsel Nagimov also had a strong performance at 5-0.
NOVEMBER NAC RESULTS
The Lions saw 14 current members of the program and two alumni place in the top 64 at the November North American Cup last weekend. Will Morrill took gold in men's sabre and Katerina Leung earned silver to highlight eight top 10 finishes.
AGAINST THE FIELD
Last year, the men defeated Stanford and Air Force, and went 1-1 against Ohio State in the regular season. The women topped the Cardinal and were 2-0 against the Buckeyes, but did not face the Cadets.
