Women's Swimming & Diving Drops Ivy Opener to Penn

Quakers take down the Lions, 193-99
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Columbia women's swimming and diving team began the Ivy season on Friday evening against Penn, but came up short. The Quakers emerged with a 193-99 win, despite some strong Lion performances.
In the first event of the day, Columbia's A 200 Medley Relay team consisting of Shaelyn Shields, Ashley Hong, Ella Chan, and Isabel Lee placed third with a time of 1:44.25.
The Lions went 2-3 in the 50 free, led by Isabel Lee with a time of 23.83 followed by Sally Ma at 23.91.
Chan scored nine points in the 100 fly with a time of 56.23. Shields followed that up with nine points in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.74.
Columbia concluded the meet with a first place finish in the 200 free relay, as the team of Lee, Ma, Chan, and Audrey Wolk clocked a 1:34.67.
For the divers, Chloe Leung led the way with a second place finish in the 1m dive with a score of 263.32.
Valeriya Bondarenko had the team's top score in the 3m dive, placing fourth with a score of 244.27.
Lily Sherman made her collegiate debut, taking fifth in the 3m dive with a score of 240.90.
"A great collegiate debut for first year Lily Sherman," Head Diving Coach Scott Donie said. "Lera was our best performer on the 3m and Chloe took our top spot on the 1m. We are looking forward to getting back to work to prepare for Yale next week!"

Columbia will return to the pool Next Friday evening for a dual meet against Yale in New Haven. It will begin at 5 p.m.
