Weiss Averages 23 Points to Collect Ivy League Player of the Week Honors

Columbia junior guard earns second weekly award of the season
NEW YORK – Columbia women's basketball junior guard Riley Weiss has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week for games played November 24-30. The league office announced its weekly awards on Monday afternoon.
Weiss put on a show at the Cancun Challenge (Nov. 27-29), going for 30 points against Kansas State, 31 in a winning effort over South Dakota State, followed by 21 to keep the Lions within striking distance against 12th-ranked North Carolina. She shot 48.3 percent for the tournament, including 11-of-26 (.423) from 3-point range, and was 13-of-15 (.867) at the free-throw line.
Weiss's biggest moment of the tournament came on Friday against mid-major powerhouse South Dakota State. Coming off a 30-point game against Kansas State, Weiss followed with a season-high 31 points (11-19, 3-6 3PT, 6-7 FT). She scored a program-record 19 points in the fourth quarter, outscoring South Dakota State by herself, 19-14, to turn a one-point game into a 13-point victory. In the fourth quarter, Weiss was 7-of-10 shooting, 2-for-2 from 3-point range and 3-for-3 at the foul line.
Weiss was named to the Cancun Challenge All-Tournament Team.
A native of Hewlett, New York, Weiss averaged 23.0 points, 2.5 assists, 1.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals over a four-game week, which also included a 73-60 victory over Binghamton last Monday.
This is Weiss's second Ivy League Player of the Week award this season and fifth of her career. She also earned the honors on November 10.
Columbia will visit Manhattan University (0-7) on Wednesday. Opening tip at Draddy Gymnasium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
